The Jumolhari Trek is renowned as one of the most scenic and rewarding treks in Bhutan, offering a perfect blend of wilderness adventure and cultural immersion. Spanning approximately 10 to 12 days, the trek takes you from the Paro Valley to the base of Mount Jumolhari, reaching altitudes of over 4,000 meters (13,000 feet) and offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, pristine lakes, and verdant valleys along the way.

Itinerary:

Welcome to Bhutan: Arrive at Paro International Airport, where you’ll be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel.

Rest and Acclimatization: Spend the day resting and acclimatizing to the altitude.

Explore Paro: In the afternoon, visit Paro Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang.

Overnight: Stay overnight at a hotel in Paro.

Tiger’s Nest Monastery: Hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) early in the morning. Explore the monastery and enjoy the stunning views.

Local Sights: Return to Paro for lunch and visit other local sights if time permits.

Overnight: Stay overnight at a hotel in Paro.

Day 3: Paro to Shana (Start of Trek)

Start Trek: Drive to the trailhead at Shana and begin your trek to Thangthangkha. The trail follows the Paro Chu (river), passing through beautiful forests and villages.

Camp: Camp overnight at Thangthangkha.

Distance: 22 km

Duration: 7-8 hour

Trek: Continue trekking along the Paro Chu. The trail gradually ascends with stunning views of Mt. Jomolhari (7,314m) and other peaks.

Camp: Reach the campsite at Jangothang.

Overnight: Camp overnight at Jangothang.

Distance: 19 km

Duration: 5-6 hours

 

Rest and Acclimatize: Spend the day resting and acclimatizing at Jangothang. Optionally, take short hikes around the area for better acclimatization and to enjoy the scenery.

Overnight: Camp overnight at Jangothang.

 

Trek: Trek over the Nyile La pass (4,890m). Descend into the Lingshi Valley, passing beautiful yak pastures and remote villages.

Camp: Camp near the Lingshi Dzong.

Overnight: Camp overnight at Lingshi.

Distance: 18 km

Duration: 6-7 hours

Trek: Trek towards Shodu, crossing the Yelila pass (4,930m). Descend into the dense rhododendron forest.

Camp: Camp near the Shodu village.

Overnight: Camp overnight at Shodu.

Distance: 22 km

Duration: 8-9 hours

 

Trek: Continue trekking through the forest, following the Thimphu Chu river. Pass through several small villages and farmlands.

Camp: Camp near the ruins of Barshong Dzong.

Overnight: Camp overnight at Barshong.

Distance: 16 km

Duration: 5-6 hours

 

Trek: Trek through rhododendron and bamboo forests. Descend to the Dolam Kencho campsite.

Camp: Enjoy the serene surroundings.

Overnight: Camp overnight at Dolam Kencho.

Distance: 15 km

Duration: 5-6 hours

 

Trek: Trek to Dodena and drive to Thimphu.

Explore Thimphu: Spend the afternoon exploring Thimphu.

Overnight: Stay overnight at a hotel in Thimphu.

Distance: 8 km

Duration: 3-4 hours

Tashichho Dzong: Visit the main secretariat building which houses the throne room of His Majesty the King of Bhutan.

National Memorial Chorten: Explore this prominent landmark in Thimphu.

Buddha Dordenma: Admire the largest Buddha statue in Bhutan.

Craft Centres: Visit the traditional papermaking factory and other craft centres.

Overnight: Stay overnight at a hotel in Thimphu.

 

Farewell: Transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure flight.
