Bumdra Trek with Yantra Odyssey

The Bumdra trek stands out as one of Bhutan’s most picturesque short-duration treks, offering just two nights of camping amidst the wilderness. Its scenic vistas and terrain rival those of longer treks, promising an adventurous and unforgettable experience as you ascend towards Bumdrak, also known as the “trek of the thousand Dakinis.” Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to explore numerous caves where mythical angels once gathered. The trek culminates with a visit to the magical Tiger’s Nest Monastery.

Itinerary

Early Breakfast: Start your day with an early breakfast.

Drive to Sangchokor Monastery: Embark on a drive to Sangchokor Monastery, followed by a visit to Shaydra, a Buddhist College.

Trek to Bumdrak: Begin your trek to Bumdrak at an elevation of approximately 3,200 meters. The trek spans about 5 hours, offering a pleasant walk through the forest with captivating views of the Paro valley. The trail involves gradual steep climbs, and the high elevation may leave you feeling breathless.

Campsite: Our campsite, situated at an altitude of approximately 3,868 meters, will be near the Bumdrak Monastery. Legend has it that this monastery was blessed by 1,000 Dakinis who meditated in a nearby cave, giving rise to the name Bumdrak.

Overnight: Spend the night camping at Bumdrak.

 

Leisurely Breakfast: Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at Bumdrak.

Explore Surroundings: Hike around the Bumdrak meditation hermitage and sacred cave. Ascend to a ridge for the finest panoramic views of the Himalayas in Bhutan.

Lunch: Lunch will be served at the campsite.

Relaxation: Unwind and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area for the remainder of the day.

Overnight: Spend another night camping at Bumdrak.

 

Breakfast: Start your day with breakfast at the campsite.

Descent to Paro Valley: Begin your descent towards the Paro valley, following a mostly downhill trail through a mixed conifer forest of rhododendron, fir, and juniper trees.

Ugyentsemo: Trek to Ugyentsemo, a picturesque location overlooking the valley, which will take approximately 2 hours.

Machig Labdron Temple: En route to Tiger’s Nest, visit the Machig Labdron Temple nestled within a cave.

Tiger’s Nest Monastery: Visit the iconic Taktsang Monastery, famously known as Tiger’s Nest, perched dramatically on a steep rock face at 9,678 feet. This sacred site holds immense significance as one of Bhutan’s most important pilgrimage destinations.

Picnic Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch provided by our staff at the base of Tiger’s Nest.

Hotel Transfer: Transfer to your hotel in Paro for check-in.

Overnight: Stay overnight at a hotel in Paro.

 

Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

Check-out: Check out from your hotel.

Airport Transfer: Transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure flight.

Farewell: Bid farewell to Bhutan as you board your flight, carrying cherished memories of the Bumdra Trek and your experiences in the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
